The skydiving community in Washington state is mourning the tragic loss of Randy Hubbs, an experienced skydiver from the Kennewick area who died following a midair collision during a group jump near Ritzville on Saturday evening.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. during a scheduled group jump organized by Skydive West Plains. Authorities reported that 11 skydivers were participating in the jump when Randy Hubbs and fellow diver Nicole Klein collided while descending through the air.
Officials stated that witnesses and staff members observed Hubbs appearing to become incapacitated after the collision, with reports indicating he no longer seemed to have control of his parachute. Staff at the drop zone reportedly began monitoring his movements as he drifted away from the designated landing area at an altitude of around 500 feet.
Witnesses told investigators that Hubbs appeared unresponsive, with his head and arms down, before disappearing beyond a nearby hill. Emergency responders later confirmed his death following the tragic incident.
Nicole Klein, identified as a 52-year-old experienced diver from the Colville area, suffered injuries in the collision and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. Reports indicate she sustained a hip injury and is expected to recover.
